How to Pick Rugs For Your Home

One of the biggest additions to any room is a rug. If you have hardwood floors, you may want to put down some rugs in the winter to make the floor warmer. But how do you go about picking rugs for your home? There are several things to consider.

The first thing to take into account is the colour. You want to select a rug with a dominant colour that fits in with the rest of your room's decor. One way is to select a rug that goes with all of your furniture. Select a rug that has several complimentary colours with your sofa, your chairs, and maybe even your walls. Another idea is to select a rug that features colours designed to make your furniture really stand out. If you have blue furniture, for example, selecting a bold red rug will create a strong colour contrast that can actually look good. Since many rugs feature designs that include multiple colours, you can even look for a rug that does both.

Colour is also important in that it can make your room feel larger or smaller. Bright, lighter colours make a room feel more spacious, while darker colours can make the room seem smaller. Be sure to take this into account when purchasing a new rug.
Design is another important element of your rugs. You don't want to select a design that doesn't go with your room. An art deco rug that features bold circles and long lines would look very out of place in a room done in a classic Victorian look. If your room is mostly decorated in a simple, plain manner, a simple rug in a solid colour may look really good in the room. On the other hand, if you have several pieces of abstract art or colourful furniture, a rug with a design might be a better choice. Just don't pick something that clashes with your wallpaper or furniture fabric.
